More Wine! And Picking Your Own Wine!

Sunday, August 02, 2009

Last month, we were able to check another winery in the state off our list - Ozan Winery in Calera:

Av went inside to their tasting room to see what he wanted to bring home and the boys and I stayed outside admiring all the vines. He bought a 2005 Cab and a 2007 'Shelby Blanc' (scuppernong) - the list of all their offerings is here. When we visited, they were sold out of their Chilton County peach wine but I'd love to try it next year when they offer it again (and I can start enjoying a little wine again). Av opened the Shelby Blanc at a supper a couple of weeks ago and said that it was sweet, best served with or instead of a dessert course.

Other wineries in Alabama are Morgan Creek in Harpersville, Vizzini Farms Winery in Calera, White Oak Vineyards in Anniston, Wills Creek in Attalla, Bryant in Talladega, Perdido Vineyards in... Perdido, Jules J. Berta Vineyards in Albertville (they are new to me), and Morrione Vineyards in Wetumpka (also new to me).

Wenker's Vineyard in Albertville doesn't sell wine, but is open in September and October for people to come out and pick their own muscadines and scuppernongs to make wine at home - plus they sell wine-making supplies.

That might be fun!
