Chez Fonfon

Thursday, March 05, 2009

Last week, Av treated us to Chez Fonfon, one of Frank Stitt's restaurants and my favorite lunch place in the big city.

He started with an "Orange Thing" - the Southern Accents Magazine blog, Miss Gracious Living, actually did a video at Highlands on how to make it.

We shared a plate of "grilled and cured sausages with radishes and celeri root":

Av had trout with brown butter, capers, and pommes frites:

...and I had the shrimp and avocado salad with sauce remoulade:
Ohmystars, it was just perfection - everything we had.  Neither of us had room for dessert, but they had a couple of cakes, a pear frangipane tart, a bittersweet chocolate-pistachio terrine, and chocolate pot de creme (doesn't all that sound terrific?).

What made the day really special, was that we ran into one of our friends, Ilse, who was there celebrating her 85th birthday with her close family.  She *loves* our boys and made them these fantastic knit baby blankets which I just cherish.  She is just this beautiful person. A Holocaust survivor, too.  Just love her.

Frank Stitt was on the Martha Stewart show this week with his new cookbook, where he made roasted trout with dill and lemon, and butter bean and mint pilaf.  Last month, it was announced that he is a James Beard semifinalist for the 2009 national outstanding chef.  Nice!
