Westin, New Orleans LATuesday, July 01, 2008
We stayed the last several days at the Westin in New Orleans. It is at Canal and Iberville, and is part of the Canal Place mall that includes Saks. The best thing about the hotel is the location - it's easy walking distance to everything. One morning while Av was doing business, Shug and I walked over to Jackson Square and spent some time at St. Louis Cathedral. We also all walked to the aquarium and the new insectarium from the hotel too (and of course Cafe du Monde).
This was our room:
It was a nice size and pretty comfortable:
One nice thing was that they gave Shug this bag with a nightlight, a rubber ducky, some little first aid supplies, and outlet safety plugs:
...and this was our view! Shug got to watch the barges go down the Mississippi all day and night. The steamship Natchez was docked nearby (you can see it in the bottom left of the pic) and each night we heard the horn as it came back in:
We enjoyed the hotel - but there's just one thing - there's no valet (this has to be the only Westin anywhere without valet)! You have to self-park in the mall's deck. When I asked one of the bellmen about it, he said that the hotel has some contention with the mall as to the number of spaces they could allot for valet parking or something like that, and that it's not settled, but they hope to have it resolved this Fall. Everything other than that was very-very good, though.
Oh! And we used our new Baby Bjorn travel crib for the first time and Shug loved it. It really took less than a minute to put up and take down too. I don't know what we would have done without it!
