Ameristar Hotel, Vicksburg MS and More PicsSaturday, July 01, 2006
Av and I were only going be in Vicksburg overnight, and we stayed at the Ameristar Hotel in Vicksburg - it's pretty large - I think they had about seven floors. Our stay was just fine.
There aren't a lot of great choices for hotels in Vicksburg, although the new Hampton has opened - but the room rate for the night we were going to be in town there was something like $120, and for just a bit more than that, you can stay in a historic B&B with a full-tester bed and a fireplace in your room! If we had been spending more than one day I would have liked to have stayed at one either The Belle of the Bends, or Anchuca, especially.
Here are some pics from around Vicksburg:
I like the design of this sign:
This is Solly's Hot Tamales, one of our favorite tamale places anywhere:
This is the Biedenharn building, where Coke was first bottled in 1894 - there's a museum inside that we visited a few years ago:
This is the Attic Gallery, one of our favorites:
This is the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation, where they do lots of activities, from concerts to classes and art exhibits:
This house was the military headquarters of Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton during the war, and it was the location where it was decided to surrender the city of Vicksburg:
