Thomasville and High Point, North CarolinaTuesday, June 13, 2006
I was soooo happy that Av told me we were going to spend some time in High Point! Neither of us had been there before, but High Point is famous as being the "Home Furnishings Capitol of the World" - lots of people go there, with their decorators - or not - to High Point to buy furniture. Even with the cost of shipping furniture back home, it's much less expensive than buying it retail, even with a nice discount.
First of all, here are some pics of Thomasville:
This is the famous "big chair" which is in downtown Thomasville, and is a symbol for the furniture industry there:
This is one of the shops in High Point that we went to:
High Point wasn't exactly like I thought it would be. I was thinking that it would be something like...if you were looking for some Bernhardt, you would go to the Bernhardt store. If you wanted some Baker furniture (I *love* Baker), you go to the Baker shop. It really wasn't like that. It was more like a series of different furniture shops that carried a variety of different lines. One thing that does make it easy, if you're looking for a certain line, is the High Point website, where you can put in the name of what you're looking for, and it has results with which places carry that brand.
We saw lots of really nice furniture at really good discounts, but we didn't find exactly what we were looking for. High Point was really neat, and it was so fun to look at *all that furniture*!!
