The Project Alabama site has information now for the Alabama Adventure Weekend they're going to hold May 5 & 6 this year. The plans are to eat at the Hollywood Inn, tour the W.C. Handy and Rosenbaum houses, FAME studio, GAS Studio, have a covered dish at the PA house for everyone to meet the ladies who do all the handsewing, and attend an open house for another designer.
The open house is for Billy Reid, who lives and has a shop in Florence (in a house built in 1833), and was the 2001 winner of the CFDA Perry Ellis Award for Menswear. Pictures of his Spring 2006 collection are on his site here.
There are two other things I found about in the Shoals area lately - one is Mook Mills Cheese Straws (they're good!) and when I looked them up just now, there's an article from the Huntsville Times about them and several other food-related businesses that are being helped by the Shoals Culinary Commercial Center, including businesses making salsa, pralines, slaw, and gumbo.
The other thing I found is jewelry by Annika Finn. She's originally from Albuquerque, but lives in Sheffield now, and she makes really lovely pieces with lots of coil detail.
