Katie Brown's Weekends

Yesterday, UPS delivered the new Katie Brown book, 'Katie Brown's Weekends'. I was really looking forward to it, because I like her ideas so much, and her last book came out something like three years ago...*and* I think I've seen every episode of 'Next Door with Katie Brown' and 'All Year Round with Katie Brown'!

There are six chapters in the book - Helping Hands, Secret Garden, Around the World, Neat Freak, Great Outdoors, and Holiday.

One of the ideas from the 'Helping Hands' chapter that I really like is to make a 'welcome to the neighborhood guidebook' for new neighbors - how neat is that? You just make a sort of very simple folder with things like a neighborhood map, business cards, take-out menus, and emergency numbers. I think that's a *great* idea - it would be so nice if you were new to a town to know what lawn service is good, or what plumber is nice, or which restaurants around deliver. Okay - next new neighbor, you're getting one of these.....

Each chapter has suggestions and recipes to do over a weekend, and all of the recipes seem super-simple - but for the most part they don't seem very interesting (I made the spinach & asparagus frittata yesterday - see yesterday's post for that).

I'm really glad that she came out with another book, but I'm hoping the others she does have lots more original recipes and ideas (I read somewhere that she's under contract to do something like four more books in the next three or four years). With her books, tv shows (like the upcoming 'Simple Solutions with Katie Brown' on PBS), newspaper column, etc., I wonder why she hasn't come out with a magazine yet? Hmmmm....
