Well, Greenville *does* have the Holiday Inn Express there now, but it didn't show up at TripAdvisor and I totally forgot to check to check the corporate website to see if it was open, so we wound up at the Fairfield Inn (again).
The person that checked us in was really, really nice, and she gave us a welcome bag just like last time (an orange, a couple of bags of snacks, etc.).
The main difference between the room this time and the last time we were there (in June - that stay here) was the lack of a bedspread. This was the first time I'd seen a sheet as the top cover of the bed (well, plus the strange runner-thing at the foot of the bed). There was actually something like a velour blanket between the two flat sheets on top of the bed, so theoretically there was a blanket...but I just thought it was a little strange. The matress had a foam-y feel (like that foam egg-crate-looking thing that people used to put on top of their beds) - it was comfortable, though. The room was really simple, but that's the idea here. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great - but it was about what one would expect for this class hotel.

Next time I will definitely try to remember that the new Holiday Inn Express is open, though....
Greenville Inn & Suites is also nearby (211 Walnut Street) - we've stayed there before too - about the same overall as the Fairfield....
