Friendship Cemetery in Columbus (4th St S And 13th Ave) is where Memorial Day began.
On April 25, 1866, the women of Columbus decorated both the Confederate and the Union gravesites. Columbus is called the "city where flowers healed a nation".
While we were there, a couple of gentlemen were there power washing and bleaching the headstones (wow, I'm not sure power washing is a great idea for those monuments); they had a Sons of Confederate Veterans logo on the side of their truck.
